"SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!"
On May 15, 2024, the Lexington Women’s Monument was unveiled in Lexington, MA — the town’s first monument honoring women and their contributions to history.
As the lead designer for this initiative, I worked closely with LexSeeHer, Inc., the president, and the team for over a year and a half to develop a cohesive visual identity and build momentum leading up to the event. My responsibilities included establishing the artistic direction and unified design style across all materials, creating merchandise, animating social media videos, redesigning the website, and leading key community-facing projects that helped rally support and raise awareness.
INVITATIONS & RSVP
Over 500 people attended the unveiling events in May 2024 including descendants of women in the monument, the press, educators, political names, families, business owners, and people of the town. Everybody received a paper invitation, an insert with additional information and events, and an RSVP card in the mail.
WALKING TOUR GUIDE
The "In Her Shoes" HerStory Trail is a guide for visitors to use to learn about where each woman made change in and around Lexington. This fold-up pamphlet includes descriptions of each woman, a map pointing you towards where you can see their mark in Lexington, as well as a monument key.
LIBRARY PANELS
I designed a 16'x9' panel that was displayed in the Lexington Public Library; the left side of it mapping out a historical timeline of the 20 women in the monument; and the right side explaining the story of LexSeeHer and additional community projects.
SWAG & MERCH
Designing merchandise was part of the big push to get everyone excited for the monument unveiling. I designed buttons, magnets, sunglasses, umbrellas, sashes, signs, and jewelry.

CHARACTER DESIGNS
At the beginning of this project, there were no images of the women to use in marketing materials. Using the original sketch for the monument, I designed and created a silhouette of each woman. We called them "The Purple Women". It was important to maintain the integrity of the sculptor's shapes as well as the ethnicity of each woman as best as possible.
THE BOOK, "SOMETHING MUST BE DONE"
The "Something Is Being Done" book was a collaborative project written by LexSeeHer's president, Jessie Steigerwald, designed by me, and put together by Betsy Sarles. I used InDesign to create this 50-page color book, currently available for purchase via LexSeeHer.
