THE MONUMENT
On May 15th, 2024, the Lexington Women's Monument was unveiled in Lexington, MA as the first monument in the town to celebrate women and their historical achievements.
My role was to use the months leading up to the unveiling to create a campaign with a unified artistic look that would advertise the event and gather community members to experience the monument.
This included: Character designs for each of the 20 women represented in the monument, a 16' panel displayed in the public library, a 50-page published book, 30 street banners, lawn signs, buttons, a walking guide, social media posts and videos, and invitations to the historic event.

"Something Is Being Done"

CHARACTER DESIGNS
At the beginning of this project, there were no images of the women to use in marketing materials. Using the original sketch for the monument, I designed and created a silhouette of each woman. We called them "The Purple Women". It was important to maintain the integrity of the sculptor's shapes as well as the ethnicity of each woman as best as possible.
STREET BANNERS
Currently up in the town center are the new street banners. There are 16 representing the women in the monument, and 14 recognizing the Women's Visibility Honorees of 2024.

INVITATIONS & RSVP
Over 500 people attended the unveiling events in May 2024 including descendants of women in the monument, the press, educators, political names, families, business owners, and people of the town. Everybody received a paper invitation, an insert with additional information and events, and an RSVP card in the mail.
LIBRARY PANELS
LexSeeHer was offered a display area in the public library for the months of April and May. I designed a 16'x9' panel; the left side mapping out a historical timeline of the 20 women in the monument; and the right side displaying the story of LexSeeHer, the process of building a monument, and additional community projects.
WALKING TOUR GUIDE
The "In Her Shoes" HerStory Trail is a guide for visitors to use to learn about where each woman made change in and around Lexington. This fold-up pamphlet includes descriptions of each woman, a map pointing you towards where you can see their mark in Lexington, as well as a monument key.
PUBLISHED BOOK
The "Something Is Being Done" book was a collaborative project written by LexSeeHer's president, Jessie Steigerwald, designed by me, and put together by Betsy Sarles.
I used InDesign to create the layout of the book and design all of the small details like the butterfly boxes, the gutter and the corners, and fonts, the headers, the location of the text, and the 'purple women' characters!
SWAG & MERCH
Designing merchandise was part of the big push to get everyone excited for the monument unveiling.
I made exclusive MAKE WOMEN VISIBLE buttons and magnets using the purple character designs and a watercolor effect.
We also decided to sell sunglasses and umbrellas since the event would happen 'rain or shine!'
There was also gold and silver jewelry made to showcase some of the animals in the monument. My role was to create clean 2D images from the sketch for the jeweler.
