Her Song is a quiet, reflective short film about a French-American woman returning to her grandmother’s village in France. I was hired by Six and Midnight Films to design and animate the film’s opening title sequence — a project that was as rewarding as it was creatively challenging.
From the beginning, the team was collaborative, kind, and deeply committed to telling a thoughtful story. I developed several concept sketches, storyboards, and typography treatments to explore how the opening credits could visually complement the film’s atmosphere. Although we initially explored some stylized designs, we ultimately landed on a minimal approach: simple white type over the live footage.
While the final animation is subtle, the process was a great reminder that not every design needs to be bold to be effective — and sometimes the best creative choice is the quiet one.
As someone who gravitates toward character-driven stories, European settings, and female-centered narratives, this project was especially enjoyable to me. It was a joy to support an independent team working with heart, vision, and strong storytelling.
